How you can use eye contact effectively

It may seem frivolous to make eye contact a topic of discussion, but umpteenth researches have proved otherwise. Eye contact is one of the most effective social tools ever. In fact, what separates people who are extroverted and self- confident with those who are introverted and shy is usually the way they use eye contact.

Shy people tend to not make eye contact at all, or make too little of it to be noticed. They tend to cast their eyes downward, and prefer not to look at their conversation partners at all. If you really want yourself to appear self confident, the trick is to look at the eyes of people you are conversing with. In fact in many countries around the world, people feel that anyone who doesn’t look at their eyes while talking is untrustworthy and has something he would like to hide. You don’t want to create that impression about yourself, do you?

But of course, making eye contact does not mean that you stare fixedly at another person. A friendly gaze is enough. If you find it difficult to constantly look at other people’s eyes while talking, you can look at other parts of the face as well.

Eye contact also makes the person you are talking to feel as if you are interested in him or her. If you shift your eyes about a lot and continue looking at other parts of the room, the person will feel that you are bored.

Use eye contact in your social life effectively and you will be a winner.
